Mr. Justice Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman was born on August 20, 1966, in the historic and scenic village of Tangir, District Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan. He pursued his early education in Tangir until 1980, demonstrating an early commitment to academic excellence. He obtained his Secondary School Certificate from Shimla Islamic High School, Rawalpindi (Punjab), in 1982, and his Higher Secondary School Certificate from District Mardan (KPK, formerly NWFP) in 1984. His academic journey continued as he earned his Bachelor's Degree from the renowned Islamia College Peshawar (NWFP, now KPK) in 1986/87, followed by his LLB (Hons) from the prestigious International Islamic University Islamabad in 1990.
Mr. Justice Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman embarked on a remarkable career in the legal arena. His commitment to justice and dedication to the rule of law led him to join the Northern Areas (now Gilgit-Baltistan) Bar Association as an Advocate in 1991. His exemplary standing and unwavering integrity paved the way for his appointment as a Tehsildar/Magistrate 1st Class in July 1996 in the Northern Area Administration, marking the beginning of his distinguished tenure in government service. He served with distinction as a Civil Judge 1st Class/Judicial Magistrate from May 29, 1998, demonstrating astute legal acumen and a deep sense of fairness in districts including Gilgit, Astore, Ghizer, and Diamer.
Recognizing his exceptional capabilities and commitment to justice, Mr Justice Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman was rightfully promoted to Additional District & Sessions Judge on February 18, 2006. His tenure in this role, encompassing districts such as Skardu, Diamer, and Ghizer, was characterized by impartiality, diligence, and a steadfast pursuit of justice. His illustrious career trajectory continued as he ascended to the position of District & Sessions Judge on October 1, 2011, and served as Judge Special Court. He distinguished himself in this capacity in districts spanning from Astore to the Baltistan Region (Skardu, Ghanche, Shigar, Kharmang, and Gilgit), leaving an indelible mark on the Gilgit-Baltistan judicial landscape.
Throughout his service, Mr Justice Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman exhibited remarkable leadership qualities and an unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice. His tenure as Registrar at the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court from March 2018 to May 2020 further underscored his administrative prowess and dedication to the judiciary's efficient functioning.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions towards the dispensation of justice and his seniority, Mr Justice Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman was elevated to the esteemed Bench as a Judge of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, taking the oath on September 16, 2021. His elevation to this prestigious position is a testament to his exemplary record, profound legal expertise, and unwavering commitment to the cause of justice.
