Gilgit-Baltistan CHIEF COURT

The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has announced the roster of Hon’ble Mr Justice Jahanzeb Khan for the Circuit Bench, Diamer Division, at Chilas, for a period of one month and 13 days, from 2 November to 15 December 2026. The order has been issued under Article 89(2) of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan Order, 2018, with the approval of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, in the interest of the litigant public.

Due to the Ex-Pakistan leave of two Hon’ble Judges of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, the Hon’ble Chief Justice has directed that all urgent matters related to the Circuit Benches of Baltistan and Diamer Divisions be fixed at the Principal Seat in Gilgit, either via video link or in-person, effective from 1st May 2025 until further notice. This arrangement ensures uninterrupted judicial services across the region.

The Hon'ble Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court is proceeding to Skardu on an official tour on 05-11-2023, to hear Division Bench cases. pertaining to Baltistan Division from 06th November 2023 to 11th November 2023.

The following office timings will be observed in the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court and District Courts/Offices of Gilgit-Baltistan Judiciary with effect from 1" November 2023 to 15 April, 2024.

Due to the illness of Mr Justice Raja Shakeel Ahmad, Hon'ble Judge of this Court, the Hon'ble Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has been pleased to constitute the following Division Bench, to hear Division Bench cases in Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court at principal seat Gilgit, for the date shown on attached document in the Notification section of the website.

The Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has granted approval for the transfer and posting of several judicial officers in the Gilgit-Baltistan District Judiciary. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has accepted the recommendation of the Departmental Promotion Committee, promoting Mr. Muhammad Sharif from Senior Civil Judge in Skardu (BPS-19) to the position of Addl. District & Sessions Judge (BPS-20) on an acting charge basis. This promotion adheres to general rules 8-B(1) of part-1 (appointments by promotion or transfer). Mr Muhammad Sharif's new assignment is at the Court of Addl. District & Sessions Judge in Gilgit, serving the public interest, effective from 1st August 2023 until further orders.

In a significant development, the Departmental Promotion Committee, duly approved by the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, has recommended and approved the promotion of Mr. Zia-ur-Rehman, serving as Addl. District & Sessions Judge in Diamer (BPS-20), to the prestigious position of District & Sessions Judge (BPS-21) on an acting charge basis.

In a significant development, Mr. Raja Mir, Assistant Registrar (G), has been appointed to handle urgent matters and cases for admission in the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court. This decision has been made with the approval of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court.

The Hon'ble Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has been pleased to approve a change in the schedule of the Division Bench Session comprising of Mr. Justice Johar Ali and Mr. Justice Mushtaq Muhammad, Hon'ble Judges of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, which previously convened on Friday of every week at Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, will now convene on Monday of every week, with effect from 29th May 2023 and till further orders.

The undersigned is directed to say that, the Tablighi Ijhtimah is scheduled to take place from the afternoon of 16th May 2023 to the afternoon of 17th May 2023 at Gilgit city. In light of the significance of this religious gathering for the public, it has been decided that a half-day observance will be observed at the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court for the dates mentioned above. The Hon'ble Judges are requested to exercise discretion and refrain from making any adverse comments if any lawyers or litigant public fail to appear in any case before the Hon'ble Judges during the mentioned time frame, as individuals may be engaged in religious activities related to the Tablighi Ijhtimah and may face difficulties in attending court proceedings. This issue by the order of Hon'ble Chief Justice GB Chief Court.

The Hon'ble Chief Justice GB Chief Court has been pleased to order that the following court timing shall be observed in the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court and District Judiciary of Gilgit-Baltistan during the Holy month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak 1444 Hijri.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court & its subordinate Courts of Gilgit-Baltistan Judiciary will remain closed with effect from 16th December 2022 to 15th February 2023 on account of winter vacations. The District & Sessions Judges are requested to inform the subordinate Courts under their control.

The inauguration ceremony of Copy Scanning Branch was held in GB Chief Court on 30th August 2022, at 11:30 am, which was chaired by the Hon'ble Justice Ali Baig Chief Judge Chief Court, Hon'ble Justice Johar Ali and the Hon'ble Registrar Ghulam Abbas Chopa. The proceedings started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After that, the Hon'ble Registrar started his speech in an excellent manner and enlightened his listeners with his precious words. The Hon'ble Registrar has expressed his views and said that the main purpose of establishing the Scanning Branch is to facilitate the citizens and to provide them justice at their doorstep. One of the benefits of this will be that; people will get their case records by sitting at their homes through the internet and they will easily get information about the nature of their case. Later on, the Hon'ble Chief Justice also expressed his views in a very brilliant manner. Then, exactly at 2:00 o'clock, the program ended in an admirable manner.

The Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, Mr. Justice Ali Baig heard an urgent case from Istanbul (Turkey) through a video link that was fixed for today 24th May 2022 at 11 am at the principal seat of Gilgit Baltistan Chief Court Gilgit. The Lawyers presented their arguments through a video link from Gilgit (Pakistan).

The first digital court in the history of Gilgit Baltistan has been installed at the principal seat of Gilgit Baltistan Chief Court (Court Room No 1). On 19-05-2022 the Registrar Mr.Ghulam Abbas Chopa in his inauguration speech said that as per the direction of Hon'ble Chief Justice Mr.Justice Ali Baig, the Gilgit Baltistan Chief Court has started operating the first digital court (E-Court) in the history of Gilgit Baltistan at Court Room no 1 Gilgit. The purpose of establishing a digital court is a great initiative to use technology for speedy and inexpensive justice. It will save the cost and time of both lawyers and litigants. The Registrar said that the advocates in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad whose cases are fixed at the court's principal seat at Gilgit may argue their cases from their cities through a video link, for this purpose a virtual courtroom will be established soon in Islamabad. After the inauguration speech of the worthy Registrar the GB Chief Court registry's case was heard via video link in the principal seat courtroom No 1 Gilgit by the Hon'ble Chief Justice Mr. Justice Ali Baig. Utilizing the system, lawyers presented their arguments from GB Chief Court Registry Skardu through a video link.

Hon'ble Register Mr. Guhalam Abbas Chopa, also attended the inauguration ceremony bench. The circuit bench started functioning at Chilas. The Divisional bench heard two cases in the newly established circuit bench Chilas. The Hon'ble Judges of Gilgit Baltistan Chief Court Gilgit and the learned Judges and bar members of other districts of Gilgit Baltistan attended the inauguration ceremony via video link.
