Honourable Chief Justice Mr Justice Ali Baig, a distinguished legal luminary, was born on January 2nd, 1966 in Ishqamdas Thoi, Tehsil Yasin District Ghizer, known as the Land of Martyrs. His educational odyssey commenced with primary and middle school examinations at DJ Primary School Draskin Thoi and FG High School Tous Yasin respectively. Continuing his academic journey, he secured his secondary education at FG High School No.1 Gilgit in 1981.
Hon'ble Mr Justice Ali Baig's pursuit of education led him to FG Degree College H-9 Islamabad, from where he completed his intermediate and graduate studies and passed B.A in 1986. He obtained his law degree (LLB) in the year 1990 from Karachi University and further obtained the degree of M.A. in Political Science in the year 1992 from Karachi University.
In 1990, Mr Justice Ali Baig was enrolled as an Advocate, marking the inception of his illustrious legal career. He started his practice as an Advocate in Karachi, honing his skills and expertise in the field. Subsequently, he transitioned into government service, joining as an Assistant Legal Advisor at the Gilgit-Baltistan Secretariat through the Federal Service Commission in the year 1992.
In 1998, he was appointed as District Attorney entrusted with the responsibility of pleading and prosecuting civil and criminal cases in various Courts of law in District Skardu and Ghanche until 14th April 2005. Recognizing his capabilities, he was appointed as Additional District & Sessions Judge in the Gilgit-Baltistan Judiciary on 15th April 2005 following the recommendations of the FPSC. In this capacity, he served as Addl District & Sessions Judge across various Districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Mr Justice Ali Baig was promoted to the esteemed position of District & Sessions Judge (BPS-21) on 10th November 2011. His meritorious service and commitment to justice were further acknowledged when he was elevated as a Judge of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court on 30th November 2017, being the senior most District & Sessions Judge of the District Judiciary of Gilgit-Baltistan.
In a testament to his outstanding legal acumen and leadership qualities, Mr Justice Ali Baig assumed the charge of the post of Chief Justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court on 31st August 2021. Since then he has been diligently performing his duties as the Chief Justice upholding the principles of justice and fairness in the legal landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan.
